Floor Cushions: The Unexpected Staple in My Home

Working from home is still very much my reality and I’m sure it remains that for many living in the UK, so a flexible space that can shift with my schedule was worth creating. Ideally I needed a home to feel just as right for working, switching off, having people over, relaxing and staying in.
Developed over two years and properly tried and tested, our new floor cushions have survived kids’ parties, arts and crafts, TV dinners and sunbathing in the garden. Now they’re a staple, and I want to share all the ways it works for me

What began as a design idea inspired by our standard circle cushions (available at Harrods, btw) quickly became something that made sense for my lifestyle. The first sample was almost perfect, but as a busy mum with a very social house, I felt like it could be better still so decided to live with the cushions for a while, sit on the idea quite literally and figure out what would make it perfect. We redesigned it to have a fully removable cushion cover, a water repellent inner cover, be machine washable, interchangeable, and able to go outside without worrying about moisture or dirt. What was once a really nice-to-have is now a can’t-imagine-life-without-it piece.
I’ll sit on them during the day if I want a change from my desk, or if I’m working with something on in the background. Evenings, when I finally get to switch off, it transforms from my office chair to TV dinners, stretching out, and my go-to cosy corner for late-night phone calls.

And then there’s my daughter, who I’m proud to say knows a good thing when she sees it. It wasn’t long before I realised I absolutely had to get her her own. She won’t sit at the dining table when it’s time for homework, art or snack time, the floor cushion is always her seat of choice. It’s also perfect for braiding her hair. I can sit comfortably on the sofa while she’s cosy on the cushion, no more standing and arching my back. It makes such a difference
Socialising — this is the best part for me. Always a conversation starter when guests come over. And if like me, a happy home looks like comfortable guests who could easily outstay their welcome, these floor cushions set the perfect vibe for relaxing and making yourself at home. Games and movie nights feel elevated when everyone’s sat comfortably. I currently own five of these, so I think it’s safe to say I’m a big fan

Probably my second favourite thing, though, is being able to use them outside. The second the weather’s good, they’re in the garden. I’ve invested in garden furniture, which looks great, but I’d rather be comfy. I’ve even taken these out into the world, picnics with friends, even a day festival. I’m warning you, take these outside and you will absolutely get stopped every five minutes. I’ll be bringing business cards next time!
